Local groups receive much needed boost from Merrifield

Community organisations and new businesses in the Mickleham area have received a much needed financial boost from Merrifield.

Recipients of the inaugural Merrifield Community Grants Program have been announced, with more than $40,000 donated.

Merrifield Community Development Manager Tennille Bradley-Ow said that each of the grant recipients would importantly provide a direct benefit to Merrifield community.
“It is extremely satisfying to know that all of the grants will help activate a range of initiatives and needs that were identified by the Merrifield community as part of our recent survey,” said Tennille.”

The inaugural Merrifield Community Grant recipients include:

Mickleham Primary School
• Part funding of a covered walkway to support students moving comfortably between classrooms.

Donnybrook Cricket Club
• To introduce junior cricket to the immediate area and to encourage participation in the MILO IN2CRICKET program.

M-Fit Pilates and Fitness
• A new fitness business, delivering a weekly timetable of classes.

Merrifield Wellness
• Facilitation of health and wellbeing workshops for residents.

SPAR Consulting
• Implementation of Chin Up Project Workshop – a mentoring program for young people – in Merrifield.

Tennille said that the number of grant applications exceeded expectations and included those from a wide range of community organisations and start-up businesses.
“It’s great to read about the wonderful ideas and initiatives coming from within our local community, ranging from health and well-being to education and business development,” said Tennille. ”I know our community has a real passion for health and fitness, so it is fantastic to be providing grants in this space and see a mix of activities delivered for Merrifield families to enjoy.”

The 2018 Merrifield Community Grants Program is planned to commence in September next year.
