A dog park is coming to Merrifield!
Dog lovers and owners rejoice! We are extremely pleased to say that on Sunday 24 May 2020, Member for Yuroke Ros Spence MP announced that a brand new dog park is coming to Merrifield! The off-leash dog park will receive $275,000 in state government funding via the Suburban Parks Program – and will form part of the new 9.5 hectare sports reserve in Merrifield, located on the corner of Blackmore Road and St Georges Boulevard.
The dog park is a welcome addition to the Merrifield community, catering to the needs of the 1 in 2 Merrifield households who currently own a dog.
Construction of the sports reserve is anticipated to commence in the coming months, ahead of an official opening in mid-2021. In addition to an amazing off-leash dog park, the reserve has been designed to feature two AFL / cricket ovals, six tennis courts, pavilion buildings, half basketball / netball court and playgrounds with seating, shelters and ample space to relax – amidst a beautifully landscaped setting.
