Aitken Boulevard Extension Now Open!
We’re excited to announce that construction of the new $44 million Aitken Boulevard extension, between Donnybrook Road and Mt Ridley Road in Mickleham, is now complete and open for use.
This important 3.2-kilometre extension provides Merrifield residents and businesses with a faster, direct connection into Craigieburn, within as little as six minutes, and conveniently delivers a range of retail, education, recreational and transport services – including Craigieburn Central, Craigieburn Train Station, Hume Anglican Grammar, Mount Ridley College and Splash Aqua Park and Leisure Centre.
The completion of the Aitken Boulevard project brings MAB’s investment in state road infrastructure in the region to more than $73 million.
“The Aitken Boulevard extension is a critical piece of road infrastructure for the Merrifield community, providing a third link between Mickleham and Craigieburn, in addition to the Hume Highway and Mickleham Road. Merrifield residents and workers will see enormous benefit with improved traffic flow and access to amenities. The Aitken Boulevard extension simply means less time commuting and more time with family,” said Matthew Planner, General Manager Communities at MAB.
This new section of Aitken Boulevard is the continuation of a key arterial road that will ultimately link Greenvale through to Wallan which, in time, will carry bus rapid transport on a dedicated central carriageway to be delivered by the State Government. “Aitken Boulevard has been carefully planned to ensure the Merrifield community have fast bus connections to the Craigieburn rail line and better access to other parts of metropolitan Melbourne.” Matthew added.
