Merrifield makes its mark

Merrifield, the new heart of Melbourne’s north, is set to welcome its first residents early next year as housing construction kicks off later this month.

Victoria’s largest fully master-planned and mixed-use community, Merrifield has experienced a strong start since its project launch just over 12 months ago, with more than 200 residential lots already sold.

With immediate access to the 300-hectare purpose-built Merrifield Business Park – creating up to 20,000 new jobs – and the 110-hectare Merrifield City Centre, Project Director Matthew Planner said that Merrifield residents will find city life at its best.

“Merrifield offers a lifestyle that only a contemporary city can deliver and is quickly proving to be a highly desirable place in which to live, work and play” said Mr. Planner.

Catering to broad range of buyers, the land releases at Merrifield been specifically designed to accommodate an incredible range of the latest home designs.

Destined to become the one-stop shop for the latest home designs in Melbourne’s north, the Merrifield Living Display Village will be in open in early 2015, showcasing 35 quality homes from 18 leading home builders.

“With the first six stages already sold out and civil works complete for the early few stages, it is an incredibly exciting time as the vision for the new city is brought to life” said Mr. Planner.

“Residents can expect a real sense of arrival home to Merrifield, with works on a multi-million dollar landscape entry statement expected to be completed by the end of this year, including a signature sculptural piece created by renowned Melbourne public artist Alexander Knox”.

Work on the first local park at Merrifield is also underway and will be finished before the first homes are completed, meaning the local residents will not have to wait to enjoy some quality time outdoors.

“The parkland has been meticulously designed parkland and will include a signature piece of climbing play equipment – the first of its kind in Australia” Mr. Planner said.

“It will also feature a multi-sports arena – guaranteed to keep the young and the young at heart engaged – together with a BBQ area which will be perfect for gatherings with friends and family”.

The park will also enjoy beautifully landscaped green spaces that will eventually form part of an expansive open space network comprising more than 130 hectares across the project.

The recent designation of Merrifield Park in the State Government’s planning blueprint ‘Plan Melbourne’ as a future regional open space asset is a significant outcome for Merrifield and provides the opportunity to deliver an “Albert Park” facility for Melbourne’s north.

“Future residents and businesses at Merrifield will all benefit from the transformation of what is currently a vast expanse of public land into a destination that future generations will share and enjoy – right on their doorstep” said Mr. Planner.

The Merrifield City Centre will become the vibrant retail, leisure, business and employment showpiece in the new capital of Melbourne’s north. The retail precinct will provide a best in-class regional shopping centre that will set the benchmark for design and retail experience in the corridor.

“The retail shopping precinct will become a showpiece for the Merrifield City Centre, offering an exhilarating future for the local community” said Mr. Planner.

Stage 1 of the shopping centre is expected to be developed as early as 2018 and comprise a single supermarket neighbourhood centre with potential for a liquor store and other specialty shops and services.
