Merrifield Recreation Reserve - Pavilion Mural
We’re excited to announce the completion of the a new mural at the Merrifield Recreation Reserve Pavilion.
The selected mural was created by artist Melanie Capel and pays homage to the Pavilion’s home club, the Merrifield Panthers, while showcasing elements of Merrifield that residents recognise as home.
About This Project
This mural is a true collaboration with the Merrifield community, who helped shape its direction by selecting a design they felt best reflected Merrifield’s identity, values and aspirations.
Painted directly onto the pavilion wall, the artwork connects the natural and built environments, celebrating a strong sense of place. It features softly lit rubber plant sprigs, found in many local homes, alongside dried river red gum leaves, native to the Mickleham region. Red-rumped parrots, a familiar sight across Melbourne’s sporting grounds, add movement and life to the piece. Teal accents reference the Merrifield Panthers, with subtle nods to their iconic claw marks woven throughout the design.
As part of the growing Merrifield Public Art Program, this piece reflects an ongoing commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive spaces that foster community pride. Merrifield also acknowledges the support of Hume City Council in bringing this project to life.
