Community first with Tennille Bradley-Ow

The Merrifield team is delighted to welcome an important new member to the crew!

Tennille Bradley-Ow has been appointed as Merrifield Community Development Manager and has already hit the ground running in January.

The new role is dedicated to fostering a vibrant community in Merrifield.

“I am really excited about what we can deliver to our community,” said Tennille. “I have many years’ experience working in community engagement, predominately within Council, delivering small and large scale projects.

“I also live in a new community myself so certainly understand the needs of Merrifield residents. We have some exciting initiatives planned.”

Tennille added that the Merrifield community is a proud group.

“Already, it is clear just how passionate Merrifield residents are about their new home and the community they are helping to develop.”

Tennille will be looking to engage directly with Merrifield residents in the first half of 2017 to understand community needs and interests, both now and into the future.

This will include a residents’ survey and a drop-in session.

Information gathered will inform the development of a Community Development Plan and a longer term Merrifield Community Vision.

See below for details.

Movies under the stars

Residents and the wider community enjoyed the first free, outdoor movie event in Merrifield earlier this month.

An estimated 1,000 people relaxed under the stars to watch 3D animated Disney movie, Zootopia.

Merrifield Community Development Manager Tennille Bradley-Ow said the night was a great success.

“It was wonderful to see residents come together and enjoy the evening.”

The park was filled with food trucks, live music and family fun, and the array of movie snacks on display was impressive!

The Summer Sessions: Movies and Music series was sponsored by the Hume City Council and Merrifield and included seven movie sessions across the region. See our gallery here.

Dulux Paints makes a splash in Merrifield Business Park

Construction of the largest paint factory in Australia and New Zealand is well underway in Merrifield Business
Park.

Dulux – Australia’s leading paint brand – will be the first business to be welcomed to the Park.

The $165M world-class facility will be ahead of the curve when it comes to manufacturing technology, using highly automated systems and processes to manufacture the majority of Dulux’s water based paints.

The factory will be integral in supporting the Dulux business for decades to come.

Pat Jones, Dulux Executive General Manager commented: “The fact that the Merrifield Business Park is part of a mixed use community with a city centre and residential aspect resonated with us. We could see the potential for us to be in the community over the long term. With Merrifield being in a growth area, we can grow with the community.”

Once operational, the new site will employ up to 70 people.

It is expected that the majority of those employed will be new to Dulux, with the recruitment processes commencing in mid-March.

Dulux will seek people from a diverse range of backgrounds to join the manufacturing team and to help create a great culture.

Most positions require no previous experience, just the willingness and ability to learn new technical skills and work within a dynamic team.

David King, the Dulux Merrifield Operations Manager said: “We want to provide our employees with stability and career growth, and most of all to create a factory that we are proud all of.”

Going, Going, Gone

The first land release for 2017 saw 44 lots sold in just 35 hours, which is a record for the development.

Merrifield Project Director Matt Planner said that sell out releases have become standard practice in Merrifield over the past several months.

“Incredibly, we had 17 purchasers sleep out in their cars overnight to ensure they secured their preferred lot,” said Mr Planner.

“We are delighted that purchasers are so excited about becoming part of the Merrifield community.”

Mr Planner said that the strength of family and friends referrals is pleasing, whilst the popularity of house and land packages with our builder partners continues to grow.

“In the past three months, over 60% of our sales have come from referrals.

Clearly, Merrifield is the destination of choice and our buyers are happy.”

A Green Tick of Approval for Merrifield

Merrifield is the largest mixed-use development in Australia to be awarded the full EnviroDevelopment accreditation from the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA).

EnviroDevelopment is a national rating tool which provides independent certification of a development’s performance across a number of sustainability categories.

Merrifield Project Director Matt Planner said that the team is delighted to be awarded full certification across all six areas – water, ecosystems, community, waste, materials and energy.

“This endorsement is a key achievement for us,” said Mr Planner. “As it is a scientifically-based rating system, our purchasers have the confidence that sustainability is inherent in our vision.

“The Merrifield masterplan has been carefully crafted to ensure our ‘live, work, play’ philosophy is delivered. The EnviroDevelopment accreditation demonstrates that we have gone above and beyond the norm.”

Merrifield Assistant Development Manager Luke Mitrione was presented with the award by Victorian Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, The Hon Lily D’Ambrosio at a special event recently.

In order to achieve the accreditation, Merrifield needed to demonstrate key initiatives and practices across the entire Merrifield development, including residential, the city centre and business park.

The activities are diverse and thorough, ranging from a soil recovery program, bicycle parking and community bus service right through to the innovative stormwater harvesting project at Merrifield Business Park.

“Our aim is to not just meet standards but where we can, exceed them,” said Mr Planner. “For example, developments must allocate two percent of residential land to open space. We are proud to deliver over 15 percent of open space throughout Merrifield, which amounts to more than 100 hectares.”

A range of materials are in development to assist purchasers with sustainable practices, both during construction of their new home, as well as after moving in. These will be made available through the Merrifield Sales Centre shortly.

“The aim is to make it easy for Merrifield purchasers to find information and local suppliers,” said Mr Planner.
