Expression of Interest: The Corner Store

Merrifield is seeking expressions of interest for operators of The Corner Store for the purpose of an onsite pop-up container cafe. In addition to the provision of quality food and drink items, the business will be required to work alongside and compliment Merrifield’s Community Development approach in regards to being a focal point for the development of community connections.

The Corner Store is located within Merrifield on Cecil Walk, Mickleham in a pop-up container, and is currently located in a designated residential area – adjacent to the busiest public open space within Merrifield.

Commencing operations in 2016, The Corner Store has built up a strong reputation as a quality food and hot beverage provider and is frequented by both locals and by the trade/building industry workers onsite.

For more information and to receive a copy of the Expression of Interest Documentation, please contact Merrifield’s Community Development Manager, Tennille Bradley-Ow on 8681 2222 or community@merrifieldmelbourne.com.au

Submissions will close at 4pm Friday, 31st August 2018.

Vote for Merrifield to have an indoor recreational space!

Merrifield has wonderful open outdoor spaces. But living in a city that’s famous for having four seasons in one day means that sometimes the weather stops us doing the activities we love.

Things like dance classes, school holiday programs and martial arts (to name a few) aren’t much fun outdoors on wet winter days and roasting summer afternoons!

So local Merrifield resident Carolyn Rodger applied to ‘Pick My Project’ for a grant to build an indoor recreational space at Merrifield.

Watch our video to learn more!

What is ‘Pick My Project’?

Pick My Project is a Victorian first community grants initiative, with $30 million available to fund local projects that will make our community an even better place to live. If successful, we can build an indoor space at Merrifield that will meet all our community’s recreational needs, whatever the weather.

We need your support!

Grants will be decided by popular vote and competition will be fierce. To get our recreational space, we need the greatest number of votes possible, so follow the steps below and show your support for your community.

1. Register for a Pick My Project account. If you already have an account, simply sign in here www.pickmyproject.vic.gov.au

2. Vote for the Merrifield Indoor Recreational Space here

If you have any issues voting, please contact community@merrifieldmelbourne.com.au

Have you met Tennille Bradley-Ow, Merrifield’s dedicated Community Manager?

To help foster a truly engaging community life, Merrifield is fortunate to have the services of a dedicated Community Development Manager. Tennille Bradley-Ow shares with us some of the secrets of true community building.

Tell us a little about your background.

I’ve been working in community development for almost 20 years, starting in Local Government working with sporting clubs to increase their capacity to be more inclusive of children with a disability. I’ve also worked in Social Planning and Economic Development with Local Government on key infrastructure and advocacy projects.

What drew you to your role here at Merrifield?

Having the opportunity to influence and shape new communities for generations is a privilege. Merrifield is such a standout development, a truly masterplanned community that will provide opportunities for work, learning and play – it’s what’s always attracted me most to this particular project and it’s become so apparent how dedicated our team are in regards to creating vibrant and sustainable communities for the future.

Describe your role as Community Development Manager.

In summary, I help develop partnerships, broker relationships, and build the capacity of residents in the development of programs and initiatives to activate the public realm, and create long-lasting community connections.

What are the essential conditions for community to prosper?

People being proud of where they live. If people have this, then they naturally want to connect with others, care and maintain their immediate and surrounding environment and contribute to their local community. You can have the best infrastructure and services in the world, but if people are not excited and passionate about the community in which they live, it just remains brick and mortar. That true sense of community spirit unfortunately will not exist.

How do you feel Merrifield differs from other new community centres?

The one thing that I have noticed so far is how engaged and passionate the Merrifield community is. People genuinely believe in the dream and vision of Merrifield.
