Major works along Donnybrook Road are now complete!

We’re pleased to announce that a significant upgrade to Donnybrook Road is now complete and open to traffic! This upgrade comprises a substantial component of the four kilometres of Donnybrook Road duplication works delivered by the Merrifield team (west of the Hume Freeway), as well as two new signalised intersections at Merrifield Boulevard and Rosehill Boulevard.
Completion of these major construction works represent a significant milestone for Merrifield, providing critical road and public transport infrastructure to service the Merrifield community years ahead of schedule.
A core component of the duplication works is the installation of mature street trees, which complement our desire to deliver high quality boulevard and landscape environments that offer the best of contemporary urban design.
The Merrifield team has worked in close collaboration with the Department of Transport and its contractor BMD to deliver this important project, in time for the opening of Merrifield City in the coming weeks.

Gaayip-Yagila Primary School progress update!

Merrifield prepares to welcome its first students at Gaayip-Yagila Primary School in term 1 2021!

The Victorian Government recently announced Gaayip-Yagila Primary School as the chosen name for the brand-new school in Merrifield. The name comes from a local Aboriginal word meaning ‘coming together to learn’. The school name is pronounced “gaa-yip ya-gila.”

Gaayip-Yagila Primary School, located on the corner of St Georges Boulevard and Blackmore Road, is a purpose built, state of the art educational facility consisting of:

  • Two open plan, flexible and adaptive learning spaces
  • Science, food technology and visual arts spaces
  • Sport and Arts Centre, including a full-size competition court and performing arts space
  • Administration building
  • Playgrounds
  • Sports field
  • Outdoor multi-use court

A kindergarten (as part of Hume City Council’s brand new community centre opening mid next year) is located next door to Gaayip-Yagila Primary School. This will help local children make a smooth transition from pre-school and reduce the number of drop-offs for some parents with kinder and school-aged children.

Cassandra Hoggins has been appointed as the first principal of Gaayip-Yagila Primary School and she is excited to meet the community and welcoming them to the new school.
Cassandra Hoggins said enrolments are now open for Prep to Year 6.

For more enrolment information, please email Cassandra.Hoggins@education.vic.gov.au or call (03) 9216 3200. Stay informed and follow the school’s Facebook page all the latest updates.
